Beware of SEO Scams

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Last week I was contacted by a business owner who was looking for SEO expert advice and maybe some search engine marketing also. I was shocked at what she told me. She had found me on page one of the search results for her query and for some reason she skipped over me and visited other sites that were on page one (for a coveted SEO phrase). She said that all three of the “SEO firms” she contacted (more…)

Google Measuring RSS Subscriptions

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Google Webmaster Tools , under Statistics:Subscriber Stats, now shows how many subscribers to your feed they are aware of via data from Orkut and Google Reader and Gmail.

I can’t help but assume that this data will be incorporated into an algorithm update, one that is designed to (more…)

The Future of SEO?

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Among those of us who have done SEO right, and white, for the past ten years, or more, and the newer SEO’s who have paid their dues and commit to excellence in learning and the execution of SEO, we admit that true blue SEO work is getting more and more difficult. (more…)

Bye Bye Google Supplemental Results

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

If! this post were announcing that Google had decided to do away with thier supplemental results index entirely, I might be smiling. But it is with a frown that I write this post.

I don’t make it a habit to criticize search engines but sometimes I just got to rant or I’ll bust. You know what I mean.

Unfortunately, Google has recently decided to kick the entire SEO community square in the groin, by disabling the (more…)

Just For the Sake of Blogging

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Wow, things are busy in this SEO and Search Marketing industry. Summer is winding down. My son will be back in school soon. I am moved into my new office and poised for something really big! Anyways, I do have a lot to blog about and just so little time to blog. So here is a post just for the sake of blogging!

Blog-jacked!

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Sorry Friends, that I stopped blogging. A couple months ago I discovered that some clown was auto-scraping my blog posts and aggregating them over to his blog, which was monetized with Google Adwords. His blog was ranking for keywords in my posts, while my original content was all going to the supplemental index. Big Bummer. (more…)

Happy Birthday Mr. Web Guru!

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Hey, it is March 12, my birthday again. It’s hard for me to believe it but yes, I am a baby-boomer.
So what should I do today? Hmmm. Should I do some research on Web 2.0? Should I optimize some content? Maybe I should blog about some really cool search engine marketing tactic.

Now that I think about it, I’m just going to take the day off and sleep as many hours as possible!

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Algorithmusical

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Interesting to me is how a good algorithm is similar to a well composed piece of music!

A good algorithm has interesting formulas composed of things like vectoring and densities and proximities and frequencies and percentages and semantic analysis and democracy. Similarly (more…)

Denvers 15% Bed Tax!

Monday, February 12th, 2007

I just made my reservation for lodging at the Adams Mark Hotel in Denver. I’m headed to the Search Engine Workshops next week. SEW worked out a nice little group discount. I guess the rooms are normally $189 per night (really?!), and I get two nights at $139 each which comes to $278 (I feel like they should throw in a massage for that much money!). (more…)
