What is Search Engine Optimization?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Hard to say in a nut shell but I want to share some thoughts about the question, What is SEO?

What is “Search Engine Optimization?”

Robert Wright 10-09-2009

Often I am asked the question, “ What exactly is Search Engine Optimization?” I’ll usually answer, “It is the practice of refining and focusing your Web site for the purpose of improved search engine performance.” Or, I’ve also answered, “SEO is the optimization of a Website for better search findability.”

It is a proven and established fact that good SEO will help a Web site perform better in major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. All fortune 500 companies are now using SEO practices. Search engine optimization addresses visibility, brand and (more…)

Latent Semantic Analysis LSI Theming

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Hot diggity! I now have the ability to match a phrase to a URL, run analytics based upon principles of “LSI” (Latent Semantic Indexing) as it relates to the bigger picture, NLP (Natural Language Processing) and provide a prioritized list of immediately usable “theme words” from pure Google data. Document theming with LSI type data is totally White Hat SEO and does not violate the letter nor the spirit of the webmaster and SEO guidelines of Google. In fact correct theming improves content relevancy and even AdWords quality scores! This new SEO strategy is based upon forensic study of white papers which have been incorporated into her algorithm  and Googles patents. Coupled with an uncanny level of insight into algorithmic operations and the spirit of White Hat marketing. Your competitors do not have this ability at this time which means that there is a HUGE opportunity for those who get started with true latent semantic theming. (more…)

Beware of SEO Scams

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Last week I was contacted by a business owner who was looking for SEO expert advice and maybe some search engine marketing also. I was shocked at what she told me. She had found me on page one of the search results for her query and for some reason she skipped over me and visited other sites that were on page one (for a coveted SEO phrase). She said that all three of the “SEO firms” she contacted (more…)

The Future of SEO?

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Among those of us who have done SEO right, and white, for the past ten years, or more, and the newer SEO’s who have paid their dues and commit to excellence in learning and the execution of SEO, we admit that true blue SEO work is getting more and more difficult. (more…)

Bye Bye Google Supplemental Results

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

If! this post were announcing that Google had decided to do away with thier supplemental results index entirely, I might be smiling. But it is with a frown that I write this post.

I don’t make it a habit to criticize search engines but sometimes I just got to rant or I’ll bust. You know what I mean.

Unfortunately, Google has recently decided to kick the entire SEO community square in the groin, by disabling the (more…)

How To Find Pages Listed in Google’s Supplemental Index

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

This is important! More and more, prospects are coming to me and I find real quick that a crisis percentage of their pages have moved into Google’s supplemental index.

The way to find out if any of your pages are in the Google supplemental (low value) index is like this:

Go to Google.com

Search Google for site:www.yourdomain.com

Start looking to see where they begin. You will know because the bottom row of data also says: “supplemental.” If you have more than 20% of your pages listed in the supplemental index then you should take action. These pages are usually stale and often share or duplicate content. If you do not know what action to take you can call me, or find an SEO expert near you to consult with.

But you should certainly at least see if you have a problem yet. ;-)

To CAPITALIZE or not to capitalize Page Titles

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

The question arises:

“When writing a page title, should you use all caps, all lowercase, or is there another way that is best?”

What I have found is that it is best to treat your titles as if they were the subject line of a news paper article. This method is called “Title Case” and it looks like this: (more…)

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Any “SEO” worth their weight in salt would agree that if you want to optimize a document for the Web, the process begins with Keyword Research; otherwise, (more…)
