Analytics

The study of how a Web site impacts its users, with data used for the specific purpose of creating a better, more effective site. Special analytics software used by e-commerce companies measure the number of people visiting a Web site, categorizing those numbers into specific details, such as what keywords visitors used to arrive at the site, how long they visited a particular Web site, what kinds of things drew them there, and what unique characteristics visitors tended to possess. Analytic software is also used to study and observe the workability of the pages of the site so administrators can make necessary adjustments.

It is Mr Web Guru's opinion that the most important Web site statistical information drawn from analytics are: Unique visitors, top entrance and exit pages, pathways navigated through the site, top referrers, and keywords used to find the site.
