In the industry of Internet marketing, search engine submission is very important! It is not the responsibility of a Web designer or developer to index, announce, promote or market the Web sites they design for you. Submissions and indexing is part of web announcing which is part of search engine marketing and is best handle by a professional Internet marketing specialist, like myself.
There are some “marketers” who hold that search engine submissions are not important, that you should just wait till the major search engines find a link to the site and hope it gets crawled. In some cases this reasoning does well, for instance, in this way you might avoid getting any “newly submitted” penalties, but I don’t feel that one needs to really worry about that any more. I take a more aggressive approach. If I know your Web site is being frequently crawled by a major search engine then I would just let them crawl it. However, in most cases, I don’t think a premium search engine would mind if you ask them to look at your new site next time they crawl.
I feel there are many proven benefits from aggressive search engine submission.
- Small traffic from a lot of places ads up!
- Good second tier search sites can become premium contenders.
- A great way to insure international findability.
- A well maintained directory or meta indice may contribute to off page ranking factors like link popularity
- Broadens your Internet community
I have a couple hundred book marked searchable databases covering virtually every industry and I do a lot of submitting by hand, the old fashioned way, except in depth. I also have a couple of great submission programs that help increase the number of places your site will appear, in addition to the major search sites and my bookmarks.
I do offer Web site indexing as a stand alone service too. All of my search engine marketing campaigns include an intensive and custom search engine submission package.
Here is a partial list of the search sites I’ll submit your Web site too for inclusion. All of these sites allow free submission and do not guarantee inclusion. Free submissions take time. Time to submit and time for the listing to appear. When you need action fast you add PPI and/or PPC to your Web Announcing budget.
